A dermatology visit that can happen in Spanish

Dermatología Texas is the Spanish-language service of Texas Skin Center. At the Houston office on Greenbriar Drive, two clinicians speak both Spanish and English: Dr. Jonathan Aldrete, MD, a dermatologist, and Mayriel Oliver, FNP-C, a certified family nurse practitioner.

For many families, that changes the whole visit. Your mother, father or grandparent can describe the itching, the spot that changed or the rash that keeps coming back directly to the clinician, ask their own questions, and hear the plan in Spanish. You do not have to sit in the room translating medical terms you may not know yourself, although you are welcome to come along.

Booking an appointment for a parent or relative

Texas Skin Center's online booking system is in English. If you are the bilingual one in the family, you can help your relative get through it:

  • Choose New Patient Visit if they have never been seen at Texas Skin Center, or Established Patient Visit if they have.
  • Enter the patient's own information, not yours. The form is for the person who will be seen.
  • Pick the Houston / Greenbriar office and a time with Dr. Aldrete or Mayriel Oliver.

Same-day appointments are sometimes available; check the booking system or call. If your relative prefers to book themselves, there is a step-by-step guide in Spanish at /como-agendar/. If you get stuck, call 346-888-4400.

What the Spanish-speaking team can evaluate

Common skin problems can be evaluated with the Spanish-speaking team, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, warts, rashes, actinic keratosis and skin checks for moles and spots. The linked pages are in Spanish, which makes them easy to share with a parent before the visit.

Texas Skin Center also offers procedures such as Mohs surgery, Botox, fillers, chemical peels, lasers, IPL, PRP for hair loss and pediatric dermatology. These are part of Texas Skin Center as a practice; call to confirm which clinician and which office offers the service you need.

Helping your relative prepare

A little preparation helps the visit go smoothly, especially if you are coordinating for someone else:

  • Bring the insurance card and a photo ID.
  • Write down every medication, cream and supplement your relative uses, including home remedies.
  • If a rash comes and goes, take photos when it flares so the clinician can see it.
  • Note when the problem started and what has already been tried.

During the visit, the clinician talks through the options with your relative and decides on a plan together with them, in Spanish.

When not to wait

Book soon if a mole or spot is changing, growing, bleeding or not healing, or if a rash is spreading quickly or comes with fever. If someone has signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the lips or tongue or trouble breathing, call 911.

Houston office location

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What people
ask us.

Can my parent's appointment be done entirely in Spanish?

Yes. Dr. Jonathan Aldrete and Mayriel Oliver, FNP-C, both speak Spanish and English and see patients at the Houston / Greenbriar office. Your parent can describe symptoms, ask questions and go over the treatment plan in Spanish. When you book, choose one of these two clinicians so the visit is with a Spanish speaker.

Can I book on behalf of a family member?

You can help them book. The booking form asks for the patient's own information, so enter your relative's name and details rather than your own. The system is in English; if you need help with any step, call 346-888-4400 and the office can assist.

Does Texas Skin Center take my parent's insurance?

Texas Skin Center accepts a wide variety of plans; call 346-888-4400 to confirm your coverage. Have your relative's insurance card in hand when you call so the office can check the specific plan before the appointment, and bring the card to the visit as well.

Can I come into the appointment with my parent?

Many families come together, and having a relative there can help with remembering instructions or follow-up dates. Because the clinicians speak Spanish, you do not need to interpret. If you have questions about visitor policies at the Greenbriar office, call 346-888-4400 before the visit.
